Grazie di Cuore

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched, they must be felt with the heart”

Helen Keller

It’s safe to say that I would not be here to write this blog, if it wasn’t for the thoughtfulness, kindness, care, and expertise of an army of wonderful people. I know a few words couldn’t possibly explain or convey my gratitude, nor in anyway hope to repay everyone for their help, so this page just aims to say Grazie di Cuorethanks with all my heart.

Firstly, to all the talented, caring and inspirational people at Tameside Hospital A&E and ICU, Salford Royal ICU, Manchester University Hospital - Wythenshawe ICU and the North-West Ventilation Unit, Grazie di tutto - thanks for everything. You are amazing.

Grazie infinite - infinite thanks to all my family, friends, colleagues, clients, neighbours, and our postman (Dan) for the hundreds of lovely messages, cards, letters, photos, poems and presents I received. They were not just thoughtful and moving, they gave me the will to get through those first few months in hospital. Also, as I was testing out the various NHS beds on offer, my friends and colleagues at the Ministry of Justice were unbelievably generous and supportive to my family, and have continued to be so following my retirement and return home. I’m indebted…È molto gentile da parte tua - you’re so kind.

Finally, whilst its impossible to list every person that has helped in giving me this extra time with my family, I would like to name check a few wonderful people. However, despite my best efforts, I’m finding it impossible to remember all the names of the individuals I want to thank. I see all your faces, hear your voices, but some names are frustratingly missing or only partially recalled. Therefore, if anyone happens to read this and thinks, ‘ungrateful bugger, where’s my name’, please contact me and help rewire my foggy noggin. In the meantime, I would like to acknowledge and thank the following people. I think about you all everyday.
